Special conditions are needed for a super bloom to occur. The desert must stay dry enough before the superbloom and it must get most of its rainfall in the autumn. The rain must penetrate deep into the soil so it can reach dormant seeds of flowering plants. If too much water falls after the initial rain has reached the germinating seeds the young plants may be washed away but if there is not enough rain, the seeds will die from lack of water.
The temperature in the desert must remain warm but not too hot and above freezing for the seeds to grow.
Strong winds might damage the young plants so they also need to be mild.
