The Fan palm is native to Australia and grows in swamps, riverbanks, and rainforests. This species is most famous for its leaves. Each plant has 9 to 12 huge, segmented, pleated, and almost circular leaves.
This palm was an important plant for Aboriginal groups of north Queensland. It provided essential life needs such as thatching and shelter from heavy rains, and for food wrapping and other material uses.
