The Heliconia bihai, Macaw Flower or also known as Firebird represents youth, pride, and great returns. It is native to the Caribbean and South America, and can currently be found growing in gardens and naturalized in many tropical gardens. It was introduced in the Hawaiian islands and there it can grow up to 20 feet tall. It can be found growing wild in moist, sunny to partly shady areas at lower elevations. The nectar produced by this flower attracts a variety of pollinators, out of which hummingbirds are the most common. The colorful inflorescences make long-lasting cut flowers in tropical flower arrangements. The decorative life of this flower is about two weeks.
