The Copihue holds a special place in the hearts of Chileans, as it was declared the national flower in 1977. The Copihue is endemic to Chile and primarily grows in the temperate rainforest and woodlands of southern Chile. The blossoms feature trumpet-shaped flowers with deep pink to crimson hues. It is a symbol of beauty, strength, and resilience, representing the essence of Chile’s natural and cultural heritage.
Despite its iconic status, the Copihue faces challenges in its natural habitat due to deforestation, urbanization, and habitat fragmentation. Conservation efforts are ongoing to safeguard the flower itself as well as the entire array of plant and animal species that rely on its habitat.
