Night climbing is preferred in the summer months because the snow is firmer at night than during the day. Mount Rainier is the most heavily glaciated peak in the contiguous United States. Each year thousands of people climb this 14,410-foot active volcano. Reaching the summit requires a vertical elevation gain of more than 9,000 feet. Mt. Rainier is one of the most active volcanoes in the northern hemisphere.
This is one of the least light-polluted areas in the world so it’s an ideal place to photograph the Milky Way. The view is spectacular!
